Here’s a preview of some art I’m wrapping up tonight for 4 Color Rebellion’s 20 days of Kirby. Of course I somehow managed to turn a drawing of a character that’s essentially a pink circle into quite a bit of work. Oh well.

From Light Grey Art Lab:
Battle Royale is massive show, with 151 artists taking on the original 151 original Pokémon! The list of amazing talent involved is absolutely awe-inspiring! You can find a full list of participants here!
All artwork is available first-come-first-serve once the doors open, and each piece is only $40!
I’m a big fan of Campbell Whyte’s 8 Bit Dream series where he’s making small spot illustrations for every original NES game. He’s taking a bit off a break to work on a graphic novel project but posted this nice compilation of every illustration so far. A large assortment of the original art can be found on his Etsy shop.
One more preview gallery of Pokemon Battle Royale art show. If you’re in Minneapolis, check it out at Light Grey Art Lab on April 20th. I’ll be the one with a baby strapped to my chest.
Seaking by Claire Hummel - I think this one might be my new favorite. It has the most interesting composition I’ve seen so far, and I’m a sucker for negative space word balloons, tattoo girls, and wave patterns.
Primeape by Jake Wyatt - This art just floored me with it’s subtle textures and color palette. I’d love to see it printed out at a much larger scale and learn more about his coloring process.
Hypno by Jordan Jeffries - I suspect this might be the bar that my Geodude is singing in…
Rattata by Campbell White - You might recognize him from his awesome NES series available on Etsy

My (almost) final submission for the Pokemon show. My sketches lent themselves more to an 8×10 format so I just went with it. I’ll crop it down for the gallery show but have the full size print available on my Etsy shop in the near future
I’ve been following the Pokemon Battle Royale entries on twitter and it looks like it’s going to be an amazing show. Check out Light Gray Art Labs Kickstarter page andsupport more exhibitions of this quality.

Draft version of my Geodude for the Pokemon Battle Royale Karaoke show. I’m pretty sure it was a karaoke themed show, but I’m not so sure after seeing other people’s entries…
This trailer blew me a way. The style and attention to detail is fantastic and the hand drawn animation has a life to it that you don’t see in 3D work. Learn more at their Kickstarter page. I hope it does well and we see more projects this lovingly crafted in the future.
Incidentally, the art style reminds me of this Dragon Age 2 concept art I saw a while back in Game Informer that is 100x better than anything you might see after it gets videogame-d. I remember thinking how amazing it would be if they could capture this feel in an actual game.
